Worked example: the 30/70 average
The marks are illustrative, and the maximum marks are the official cohort 2008 ones. Cohort 2009 uses the same 30/70 method, but the marks per subject in the four fields are not officially published yet, so check moe.gov.jo.
- Add the Grade 11 ministerial marks: Arabic 85/100, English 80/100, Islamic Studies 54/60, Jordan History 36/40. Total 255 of 300.
- Convert the Grade 11 total to 30%: 255 ÷ 300 × 30 = 25.5 of 30.
- Add your Grade 12 field marks (example: Business Field): Business Math 150/175, Financial Literacy 140/175, Advanced English 160/175, Elective 145/175. Total 595 of 700.
- Convert the Grade 12 total to 70%: 595 ÷ 700 × 70 = 59.5 of 70.
- Add both results: 25.5 + 59.5 = 85, your average out of 100.
Only the Ministry of Education issues the official average with the results.
Tawjihi GPA: FAQ
How is the Tawjihi GPA calculated under the 30/70 system?
The average is out of 100: the Grade 11 ministerial exams give 30% and the Grade 12 subjects give 70%. Cohort 2008 (Tawjihi 2026) has finished both grades. Cohort 2009 (Tawjihi 2027) sat Grade 11 and is now in Grade 12. Cohort 2010 (Tawjihi 2028) is in Grade 11; according to the news it takes Mathematics instead of English in the Grade 11 ministerial block, and the official instructions are not published yet. What is the reverse GPA calculator for?
The reverse calculator starts from your target GPA (for example a major you aim for) and computes the marks you need in remaining exams. Useful for planning — remembering that admission thresholds change every year and cannot be guaranteed in advance.
Is the calculator result my official GPA?
Only the Ministry of Education issues the official final GPA with the results. The calculators here are verification and planning tools that help you understand the formula and estimate your position — not a replacement for the official transcript.
Is the 30/70 formula the same for vocational (BTEC) students?
No. In the vocational-technical (BTEC) track, 30% comes from a general exam in the shared-culture subjects (out of 300) and 70% from the Level 3 programme assessments (out of 700), not from Grade 12 specialised subjects as in the academic track.
