What is the 30/70 system and academic fields?

Jordan’s published framework combines a Grade 11 common stage with Grade 12 specialization. The current 30/70 weighting is in the official examination instructions. Use the GPA Calculator as a study aid, then verify the rule for your own cycle. A field name does not by itself prove university-major eligibility.

Two separate cohort cutovers

  • Cohort 2008: historical six-field Grade 12 model; its Grade 11 ministerial block included English.
  • Cohort 2009: Grade 11 ministerial subjects were Arabic, English, Islamic Education, and Jordan History. In Grade 12 during 2026/27 it enters the four-field model.
  • Cohort 2010: the Grade 11 ministerial block is Arabic, Mathematics, Islamic Education, and Jordan History. English remains a Grade 11 school subject, and Advanced English is mandatory in Grade 12. It follows the four-field framework, while its detailed cycle form must be rechecked when published.

The four Grade 12 fields for cohort 2009

  1. Health: Chemistry, Biology, Advanced English; choose one of Mathematics, Physics, or Earth and Environmental Sciences.
  2. Science, Technology and Engineering: Mathematics, Physics, Advanced English; choose one of Chemistry, Biology, or Earth and Environmental Sciences.
  3. Humanities and Social Sciences: Specialized Arabic, Advanced English, Specialized Islamic Education; choose one of History, Geography, or Financial Literacy.
  4. Business: Business Mathematics, Financial Literacy, Advanced English; choose one of Specialized Arabic, Specialized Islamic Education, or Geography.
