What you study

Students study programming, linear algebra, calculus, probability and statistics, databases, data cleaning, exploration and visualisation, machine learning, big data and data engineering, natural-language processing, cloud computing, business analytics and information governance.

Career paths

Paths include data analyst, business-intelligence analyst or developer, data or analytics engineer, junior data scientist, and entry-level machine-learning roles when supported by strong programming and mathematics. Applications exist in banking, telecommunications, e-commerce, healthcare and the public sector.

Common misconceptions

Data science is not only creating dashboards or AI models; much of the work concerns data quality, preparation and understanding context.
The degree alone does not make someone a senior data scientist; practical projects, domain knowledge and communication are essential.
