What you study

Students study human structure and function through anatomy, physiology and biochemistry, followed by pathology, pharmacology, microbiology and public health. The clinical years include rotations in internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, emergency medicine and family medicine.

Career paths

Realistic paths include working as a general physician after completing internship and licensing requirements, then entering hospital residency programmes. Other paths include public health, medical research, academic teaching and healthcare administration after additional training or qualifications.

Graduating from medical school does not immediately make someone a specialist; internship, licensing and residency are separate stages.
