Read the text then do the tasks below: It isn't hard to explain why parents, teachers and older people in general get so concerned about the negative effects of young people's use of communications technology. They may be motivated by a wish to protect their children from harm or to control them, but throughout history older generations have always tried to put limits on the behaviour of the young. The only difference now is that the Internet is such a powerful force, and older people generally don't really understand this new world of social media and instant communication, so they're unable to control it. And the situation is changing so fast that the gap in their knowledge is widening all the time. In a similar way, governments, even in democratic countries, like to put limits on people's behaviour. After all, it's a large part of what governments are about. They may have more technological knowledge than the average parent, but the spread of social media sites and communications apps like Twitter and WhatsApp is making it harder and harder for them to control what their citizens are saying and doing. Clearly, this isn't always a positive trend, but what we can say for sure is that new information and communications technologies are a force for social change and economic development, especially in poorer countries without a reliable traditional phone network. The World Bank has calculated that in countries like this, a 10% increase in high-speed Internet connections leads to a 1.3% increase in economic growth. It is, they say, the single most powerful way to extend economic opportunities and services to millions of people, especially in remote areas' A recent headline on the BBC website asked: 'Could Ramallah become an Arab World technology hub?' The article went on to show how young Palestinians are starting small technology companies that could help the Palestinian economy to break free from the restrictions placed on it by the Israeli occupation. As one interviewee explains: This is what is good about technology: it breaks the borders. A person with a laptop can work in the worst situations; he can work from his home and interact with the global community, without a passport and despite the occupation. It is limitless.'
Decide whether these statements are True or False:
It's very hard to explain the worries of adults towards young people's use of technology. ( )
Governments often try to control how people use new communication apps like WhatsApp. ( )
Governments might have more technological knowledge than the average parent. ( )
Technology cannot help people work or connect globally in difficult situations. ( )
Complete the table with reasons for the given statements:

Circle the correct answer to complete each sentence:
Governments struggle to control social media because ……
اعرض الحل
الإجابة الصحيحة: ب) it spreads faster than their ability to control it.
The text says the spread of social media sites and apps is making it harder and harder for governments to control what citizens say and do. So the point is that it spreads faster than they can control it. Nothing says social media is blocked or unneeded.
Circle the correct answer to complete each sentence:
The writer is certain that new information and communication technologies are ……
اعرض الحل
الإجابة الصحيحة: أ) a force for social change and economic development
The writer says that, although this is not always a positive trend, new information and communications technologies are a force for social change and economic development. The text does not say they always lead to negative outcomes.
Circle the correct answer to complete each sentence:
Ramallah is being considered as a technology hub because ……
اعرض الحل
الإجابة الصحيحة: ج) young Palestinians are starting technological companies despite restrictions.
The BBC article shows young Palestinians starting small technology companies that could help the economy break free from the restrictions of the occupation. So Ramallah is a possible hub because they start companies despite the restrictions, not because the occupation has stopped progress.
Circle the correct answer to complete each sentence:
The writer's idea of the effect of communications technology on society is ……

Read the text and do the tasks below: The way we buy and sell things has changed a lot because of online businesses. These businesses are like stores that never close. They are open all day, every day, and you can shop from anywhere in the world using a computer or a smartphone. Online businesses can reach people everywhere, not just in your town or city. You can sell your products to people in other countries. For example, someone who makes handmade jewelry can sell it to customers all over the world. This gives businesses more chances to grow and make money. One big advantage of online businesses is that they have lower costs compared to physical stores. There is no need to rent a shop, pay for services, or hire as many employees, which helps business owners save money. However, running an online business isn't always easy. There's a lot of competition because many people are selling similar things. To succeed, you need to make your business stand out. This means being different and better than others. One way to stand out is by using great pictures and videos to show off your products. Good visuals help attract customers. You can also share your story: how you started your business and what makes your products special. Telling your story helps customers feel connected to you. Trust is also very important. People need to feel safe when buying from you. You can build trust by giving clear information about your products, offering secure payment options, and being honest about shipping and returns. Positive reviews from happy customers can also make new customers feel confident about shopping from you. Online businesses have changed the way people shop and work. They give creative and hard-working people the chance to start their own business and be their own boss. If you're interested and ready to work hard, you can build something amazing with an online business.

While visiting Paris (on business / in business), he managed to visit a few tourist places.
اعرض الحل
